NEWS IN BRIEF: STMicroelectronics, EMC, Vodafone, ACTO

STMicroelectronics has merged its subsidiary, ST-NXP Wireless, with Ericsson's mobile platforms subsidiary. The 50/50 JV will concentrate on creating mobile platforms and wireless semiconductors.

EMC has extended its partnership with Microsoft through 2011. The companies will concentrate on providing broader and deeper product interoperability in its virtualization, security and content management offerings.

Vodafone has added equipment from Huawei Technologies to its trials of LTE equipment, Unstrung has reported. The operator is also testing equipment from Alca-Lu, Ericsson, NSN and Nortel.

AT&T, BT, Verizon, Cable & Wireless and Orange have launched a new Indian lobby group - the Association of Competitive Telecom Operators (ACTO), the Economic Times reports. The consortium of foreign operators will advocate for open competition in the Indian market.
