( Taiwan Economic News via NewsEdge) Nortel Networks Corp. has inaugurated a Center of Excellence for WiMAX Devices in Taiwan to offer tests on WiMAX handsets and terminal equipment, making it the first multinational enterprise to open such a facility in Taiwan .
According to Nortel executives, the center aims to draw up format and technology for WiMAX terminal equipment, help Taiwanese networking companies engage in WiMAX development and research as early as possible, and offer end-to-end solutions. Taiwan was chosen as the location for the center due to its leadership in Wi-Fi technology and its WiMAX connection program. Nortel also helped Taipei City and Kaohsiung City install Internet-connection networks.
