Omnifone to provide Sony Ericsson music service

Omnifone has won a contract to power Sony Ericsson's new music service PlayNow plus, reports Telecompaper.

The subscription music service will be available starting later this year, first with Telenor in Sweden, and a roll-out in other markets around the world is planned for early 2009. Sony Ericsson will bundle its mobile phones with the PlayNow application and up to 1,000 pre-loaded music tracks, according to the report.

The first phone to feature the service will be a special edition of the W902 Walkman with 1,000 recent, popular songs. At the end of the subscription to PlayNow, customers will be able to keep a large number of tracks in the MP3 format, which can be moved among digital devices.
