Orange France to offer premium film and TV service

In an effort to break the monopoly of Canal+, Orange France has announced that it plans to launch Orange cinéma series--a service that it claims will be the first of its kind to offer premium films and television on TV, PC and mobile.

According to France Telecom's chief executive, Didier Lombard, the new service was not a replica of satellite programming, such as is available from Canal+, but a triple play offer that would consist of six channels of films and a number of TV series. Lombard added that the Orange cinéma series, which is being prepared for launch by the end of this year, would be available by subscription to all Orange TV, internet and mobile customers in France.
