Philippine carrier signs MVNO deal in Italy

The Philippines' largest telecom company PLDT Global and subsidiary PLDT Italy entered into the partnership, which combines mobile services in the Philippines and in Italy, local media reported.

'This should bring an exceptional mobile experience to the Filipino community in Italy,' PLDT said.

The mobile virtual network will use the platform of Smart Communications, and offers electronic loading, and sharing of prepaid airtime credits. It also services video calling and video streaming.

'Branded Smart Pinoy, the new MVNO service will offer affordable rates for international calls and SMS from Italy to the Philippines,' PLDT said.

It likewise plans Smart Pinoy to provide remittance service through use of the mobile phone.

PLDT Global's Hong Kong MVNO called 1528 Smart was launched in 2004.
