Portugal Telecom prepares digital wallet

Portugal Telecom is gearing up to launch Portugal’s first digital wallet service, after contracting domestic specialist CardMobili to implement a payment platform.

The digital wallet firm will provide Portugal Telecom with the technology to offer value added e-commerce services, with a focus on digital loyalty, offers, and coupons. The Portuguese incumbent is CardMobili’s sixth partner, and joins companies including Telefonica on the company’s books.

Tiago Silva Lopes, director at Portugal Telecom, says the partnership will enable the telco to launch its digital wallet faster, opening the door to new revenue streams and increasing “opportunities for interaction with our users.”
