Red Bull to launch as O2 MVNO in Germany next month

The high-profile Austrian drinks company, Red Bull, is preparing to launch mobile phone services next month in Germany as an MVNO on Telefonica O2's network. The company has already launched mobile services in Austria, Switzerland and Hungary as an MVNO.

Interestingly, the company is looking to differentiate itself in the increasingly crowded German market by providing original content produced in the Red Bull Media House in Salzburg, Austria. This includes several thousand videos covering Red Bull sports events, a mobile TV channel, Red Bull TV and downloadable apps for smartphones.

While its German launch--planned to benefit from the pre-Christmas sales period--will be a significant leap forward for Red Bull's mobile ambitions, the company is looking to continue with further expansion next year.

The company has failed to comment on its future plans, but it is thought to be looking at other key European and Asia countries as potential markets. Interest from mobile operators in signing Red Bull as an MVNO is reported to be high.
