Report: Despite challenges, MMS set to generate $180B through 2016

New marketing data from Portio Research claims that MMS will face strong competition from burgeoning OTT services, but still generate revenues of $180 billion (€135 billion) from this year until 2016. The MMS market made up $31 billion (€23.25 billion) of the global $202 billion (€151.5 billion) mobile messaging market in 2011, according to Portio. John White, business development manager of Portio Research, said in a statement that while social networking sites and email have seemingly now become a preferred mode among mobile subscribers for sending multimedia content, MMS is and will still be a preferred medium for sharing personal content. Still, White said that growth in the MMS market is slowing down amid challenges from applications and over-the-top services. Article
