Report: Mobile ads will account for over 15% of online ads by 2016

Mobile marketing and advertising will grow at a CAGR of 37 per cent over the next five years, says a new study by Berg Insight. The Swedish market research firm claims that the €17.2 billion spent on mobile promotions in 2016 will correspond to 15.2 per cent of the global online advertising market, or 3.8 percent of the worldwide ad spend for all media. The report forecasts that a significant boom in mobile ads will occur after being stuck an experimental phase for the past several years. However, the study warns that the mobile promotions value chain is still developing with a large number of players dedicated to different activities related to mobile advertising. The situation is made more complex by the involvement of major technology players--including Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Yahoo--that are in fierce competition over market shares in the mobile ad sector.
