Global sales of handsets featuring NFC increased ten-fold in 2011 to 30 million units, according to a new report from marketing research from Berg Insight. Leading handset vendors introduced more than 40 NFC-enabled models into the market in 200. According to Berg, the NFC handset market is just getting started though. The firm says that NFC-enabled phone shipments will growth at a CAGR of 87.8 per cent, and are expected to reach 700 million units in 2016. Declining NFC costs will also enable broader integration in the feature phone segment that is rapidly gaining smartphone-like functionality, according to Berg. Release
