Report: NFC m-payments revenues will surge to $50B by 2014

Global m-payment revenues based upon NFC technology will climb to nearly $50 billion by 2014, according to a new study from Juniper Research. The firm claims that, following services launches in Europe and elsewhere, there will be an upsurge in 2011 and 2012 in NFC-based service deployments. One key finding of the report is that the prospects for NFC have improved significantly in the last six months, with the m-payment industry experiencing an uptake in interest from the mobile and retail industries. However, the Juniper report warns that much more progress is required to make NFC devices mainstream, with only a small number of handset being enabled with the technology at the time of m-payment launches.
