RIM launches hostile take-over bid for Certicom

BlackBerry maker RIM has started the hostile takeover bid for wireless security firm Certicom, according to. IDG news service.

Security is of fundamental importance to the BlackBerry offer: all email goes through RIM's network operations centre and is encrypted for transit over wireless networks.

However, BlackBerry devices are not certified at the highest levels of government security, a fact that has made headline news after BlackBerry fan Barack Obama became US President Elect.

RIM and Certicom are based in Ontario, Canada.
