Romanian WiMAX licence awarded

Radiocommunications National Society (SNR) has been granted a licence to roll out a national WiMAX network in Romania operating in the 3.6MHz band. One of the conditions for awarding the new licence was that SNR release two frequency bands it already held in adjacent spectrum. The Romanian telecoms regulator ANC plans to issue two further licences for this released spectrum and is currently conducting a comparative selection procedure.

SNR, which paid 2 million Euros for the three-year licence, will be required to provide WiMAX coverage in at least 50 cities and 20 towns within a specified time frame.
