Romanians embrace number portability

Around 15,000 fixed and mobile phone users in Romania have ported their numbers to a new service provider during the first two months of number portability, which became available on 21 October, according to Telecompaper .

Overall, nearly 25,000 users requested to port their number, according to Romanian regulator ANC. Of these, 21,000 were mobile number portability requests, while the remaining 3,000 users requested to port their fixed number.  So far over 1,694 fixed numbers have already been ported.

Vodafone won the largest number of ported customers, adding around 555 ported customers to its overall customer base in the period, followed by UPC with 425 ported customers, RCS&RDS with 403 and Romtelecom with 210 ported users the report says.

It continues, of the over 14,000 mobile numbers already ported in Romania, Cosmote won 5,960 users, followed by Orange with 4,167 customers, and Vodafone with 3,778 ported additions.

Depending on the number of portability requests received, the regulator plans to gradually increase the current maximum limit of ported numbers per day allowed to each operator from 300.
