Rostelecom seeks IP/MPLS improvement

Rostelecom, Russia’s largest telco, is upgrading its IP/MPLS network to cope with growing data traffic.

The telco is deploying a 500-Gbps coherent super-channel technology from intelligent transport firm Infinera in a bid to boost access speeds for its 100 million domestic fixed and mobile customers. Infinera claims the technology will also enable Rostelecom to cut its operating costs, and offer subscribers Ethernet services 10-Gbps, 40-Gbps, and 100-Gbps data rates.

“Rostelecom sees the need to respond to immense growth of traffic volumes in a quick and proactive manner,” says Ivan Zima, senior vice-president for network development at Rostelecom, OJSC.
