Sony Ericsson names Ishida deputy CEO

Sony Ericsson said Yoshihisa Ishida will be taking over the position of deputy CEO and executive vice president at the company from September 1.

He succeeds Rikko Sakaguchi, who has been part of the leadership of Sony Ericsson since the start up of the joint venture in 2001, most recently as chief creation officer overseeing product and portfolio development. Sakaguchi is leaving Sony Ericsson to take up a position at Sony Corporation, the company said in a statement.

Ishida will be based at Sony Ericsson’s largest R&D facility in Lund, Sweden, leading the handset maker’s design centre and product and portfolio development teams. He will focus on the integration of content and services into Sony Ericsson’s product portfolio and spearhead the company’s Android strategy.

Ishida is currently corporate executive, SVP, in charge of platform & partner strategy and president of Sony’s home entertainment business group, and has recently been involved in developing the Android-based Sony Internet TV.

He previously served as president of Sony’s TV business group.

Sony Ericsson separately appointed Tim Harrison to the newly created role of head of content and marketing strategy.

He will focus initially on driving content development for Xperia PLAY - the PlayStation-certified smartphone - and helping to drive the company’s wider games proposition and content marketing activities.

Harrison has over ten years experience in mobile content and gaming. Prior to joining Sony Ericsson, he has held several high profile roles, including head of games and applications at Vodafone, and European marketing director at EA mobile.
