Standards bodies told to standardize

The world needs to take aggressive action to streamline the global standards within the telecommunications and IT sectors, according to technology leaders.

The fist Global Standards Symposium (GSS) took place in Johannesburg on Monday. The delegates widely agreed upon the need for clarity within the global standards landscape.

Speakers at the symposium estimated there were over 300 ICT standards bodies in existence today, and argued that keeping track of each standard is a bewildering and difficult task.

Fortunately, the symposium heard, standards bodies consider the establishment of better communication and co-ordination between standards bodies a top priority.

The ITU is also working to establish a direct line of communication with technology leaders in the telecommunications sector.
