StreetView takes on Grand Canyon

Hiking. It can be such a chore. Google is determined to take the pain out of it.

The search giant has deployed its StreetView cameras - those that have controversially mapped almost every highway and byway in the world - in the US Grand Canyon, as it seeks to map out the trails in and around the canyon.

While the move raises the prospect of viewing the spectacle from the comfort of your own home, it also raises a question of who is actually carrying the cameras.

Some 15 cameras are mounted in a backpack weighing 18kg that contains a hard-drive to store images, and battery that can power the outfit for a full day.
