Study: Femtocells now being deployed in volume

Operators are now deploying 3G femtocells in volume, according to Informa Telecoms & Media's latest update on the progress of small cells. The study said that one of the latest operators to deploy small cells include Mosaic Telecom in the United States, while Telecom Italia has announced plans to launch before the end of 2011 and Korea's SK Telecom is set to unveil the world's first LTE femtocell service. Of note, Telefónica's O2 has revealed pre-launch details of its "Boostbox" femtocell service for use by both residential and enterprise customers in the UK. However, US operators continue to be the leaders in terms of deployment numbers, with AT&T Mobility having the largest in service. Several European and Asian operators including Vodafone UK, Japan's Softbank and France's SFR, are said to have more than 100,000 deployed units. Release
