Swisscom keeps focus on fiber

Swiss incumbent Swisscom is continuing a fiber push, detailing plans to connect the bulk of homes and businesses in the Yverdon-les-Bains region.

The operator plans to deploy four lines of fiber per address, in conjunction with the region’s local energy department Service des Energies d'Yverdon-les-Bains. Rollout is scheduled to begin in the spring, with the first addresses due to go live by the autumn.

Swisscom is pledged to offering wholesale access to the new network, claiming the move will ensure consumers have a wide choice of operators and services.

The Yverdon-les-Bains network is Swisscom’s second fiber commitment in recent weeks, after it announced plans to connect 14,000 addresses in the south east of the country late January.
