T-Mobile completes EDGE upgrade in Germany

T-Mobile claims to have launched the most modern GSM/EDGE network in the world after a nationwide technology upgrade in Germany.

T-Mobile said it had replaced in more than 20,000 base stations in the last year to improve voice quality and lowers costs. The hardware was provided by Alcatel-Lucent and Ericsson.

According to T-Mobile, EDGE offers faster transmission of e-mail, images and music to and from mobile devices, without changing the location of base station or their system frequency and field strength.

It cconfirmed the final upgrade had been completed in the Saxony region.
