Telecom Italia taps Microsoft for IPTV services

Telecom Italia has signed an agreement with US software giant Microsoft to deliver IPTV services using Microsoft's TV IPTV Edition software platform.

In a statement, Telecom Italia said it planned to launch next generation IPTV services for its "Alice Home TV" later this year.

Telecom Italia planned to offer subscribers across Italy a rich, personalized TV experience based on the Microsoft TV IPTV Edition software platform.

The carrier earlier signed an IPTV deal with Alcatel, which would complement the new deal, Telecom Italia said.

Alcatel will provide complete services to integrate Telecom Italia's network.

As part of Telecom Italia's long-term vision to deliver converged services, the next generation IPTV services aims to reach more than 1 million subscribers over five years.
