Telefónica deploys latest prepaid service

Spanish mobile operator Telefónica Móviles has unveiled an SMS-based service that allows prepaid customers to instantly avail of an automated loan if they are temporarily unable to buy phone credits.

The carrier said the service, which was under the "Movistar" brand, enabled customers to receive the automated credits via SMS, and repay the loan when they next buy a top-up.

Wireless solutions company Telsis provided the application behind Movistar, Telefonica also said.

Telefonica said Telsis would also provide other applications that would allow the carrier to double the capacity of its Movistar services to accommodate some 20 million subscribers.
