Telefonica claims Firefox first

Telefonica Digital has been in touch to point out it was the first in Europe to launch a smartphone running the mobile version of Mozilla’s Firefox operating system.

We reported on Monday that German incumbent Deutsche Telekom had claimed the honor of being Europe’s first telco to launch a Firefox powered smartphone with the rollout of the Alcatel One Touch Fire in Poland, however Telefonica Digital then sent over details of its launch of a Firefox powered ZTE handset in Spain at the start of the month.

The Deutsche Telekom unit is, therefore, the second Firefox smartphone to hit stores in Europe.

Telefonica Digital, meanwhile, plans to deploy the ZTE One handset in Colombia and Venezuela in the coming weeks.
