Telekom Austria's full year operational profits down 82%

Telekom Austria Group reports revenue growth of 5.1% to €5.17 billion in 2008, driven by mobile revenue growth, Telecompaper reports.

The full-year operational profit for 2008 decreased 82.2% to €135.5 million compared with 2007, which saw the group report a net loss of €48.4 million compared with a net profit of €492.5 million in 2007.

The operator's mobile revenues increased by 11.7% to €3.39 billion in 2008. This growth was driven by all operations which more than offset lower roaming revenues after the EU regulation was introduced.

Although the fixed network restructuring charge affected EBITDA, operating profit and the net result, Telekom Austria expects the results to improve again in the future, the article said. Under the ongoing restructuring programme, about 1,250 employees, who cannot be laid off mainly due to their civil servant status, will be made redundant from the Fixed Net operation in the course of this year.
