The Sweden-based operator said Anders Olsson has been appointed COO and head of global services and operations as well as a member of the TeliaSonera group executive management team. He will take up his position no later than Jul. 8 this year.

Olsson previously worked at Tele2, where he held several positions since joining in 2007, most recently as executive vice president for strategic projects. Tele2 said there would be no replacement for this position.

Johan Dennelind, president and CEO of TeliaSonera, said he was pleased to have been able to "attract Anders to join TeliaSonera".

"He has a long career in a successful company and his leadership and experience will be very valuable in the next phase of shaping of TeliaSonera," added Dennelind.

TeliaSonera also presented its proposal regarding the election of members to the board of directors and the chair of the board. The proposal will be voted on at the company's annual general meeting (AGM) on Apr. 12.

Notably, Olaf Swantee, the current CEO of UK mobile operator EE, has been proposed as one of three new board members. The move indicates what could lie ahead for Swantee, who does not plan to keep his position at EE following the completion of BT's acquisition.

TeliaSonera is also proposing the election of Susanna Campbell, currently CEO of Ratos, and Anna Settman, founder, CEO and partner of investment company The Springfield Project.

The proposal also includes the re-election of Marie Ehrling, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, Mikko Kosonen, Nina Linander and Martin Lorentzon, with Ehrling also re-elected as chair of the board.

TeliaSonera added that all the proposed board members are considered independent in relation to the company, the group management and to major shareholders of the company.
