TMF builds service benchmarking system

Twenty-five telcos have submitted themselves to benchmarking on key OSS and service criteria, the TeleManagement Forum says.

The benchmarking covers 50 different business processes, such as time and cost of ordering or service fulfillment, although the focus is on "subset of five to ten core metrics that are really important," said TMF chairman and CEO Keith Willetts.

"It is highly sensitive information, so we built a secure database system so they can enter metrics data, see where they are in relation to other operators, but not be identified," he said.

The system was built by TMF and members HP, Telcordia and Alcatel-Lucent, he said.
