Transmode expands XO Comms US network

Packet optical networking vendor Transmode claims a new deal with XO Communications will change the face of the US access market.
The Sweden-headquartered firm is set to expand metro capacity on XO’s network throughout the US using its TM-Series platform, under a five year deal that also covers training, installation and technical support. Transmode’s initial deployment will provide XO with gigabit Ethernet and 10-G Ethernet connectivity, though the platform is capable of handling 80 channels at speeds up to 100-Gbps.
Paul Harrison, North America vice president at Transmode, explains the contract is important because XO “is rapidly growing,” due to its position as an alternative to established US telcos
