UK users sent 2.7b text messages daily in February - report

UK mobile phone users sent 2.7 billion SMS or text messages during February, an increase of 26% from the same period a year earlier, a Dow Jones report said.
Dow Jones, quoting a report from the Mobile Data Association (MDA), also said UK mobile phone users sent, on average, 99 million text messages a day over the course of the month.

The MDA report also said 120 million text messages were sent on Valentine's Day, compared to around 10 million cards.

A total of 32 billion text messages were sent within the UK over 2005, in line with MDA forecasts, the report said.

The group also predicted that 36.5 billion text messages would be sent in 2006, the report said.
