Understanding the standards for HSPA+ and LTE-Advanced

Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) standards have successfully driven the mobile marketplace to more than 6 billion connections worldwide. That number continues to grow as the number of devices and the expanse of connectivity into machine to machine and many vertical industries magnifies.

This is further exemplified by the growth in data traffic as smartphones, tablets and rich services like video have reached peaks never imagined in past years. There is a continuing story for 3GPP evolution in the coming years with further enhancements to HSPA/HSPA+ and to LTE-Advanced to enable advanced services and support the growing exabytes of mobile data traffic.

This executive summary is intended to provide a brief review of some of the key specifications in 3GPP Release 11.
