2010 Prediction No. 3: Mobile operators make aggressive moves to manage data traffic

There will be no stopping the rampant growth of mobile data traffic thanks to smartphones, dongles and modems. AT&T has become the poster child for operators struggling with mobile data growth. Already, a number of companies have stepped up with solutions they say will help operators deal with the deluge. WiFi continues to play a role in offloading data traffic. But operators haven't adopted such solutions in droves yet. They will as data traffic outpaces revenue. I expect to see more operators embracing WiFi in a big way, even going as far as AT&T to include auto-authentication.
