Where it's based: Lindon, Utah
When it was founded: 2004
Why it's Fierce: With WiMAX expected to make a nice showing in rural markets--thanks to the government's $7.2 billion in broadband stimulus funds--Alianza is poised to pounce. The company offers a hosted VoIP service for WiMAX networks, giving WiMAX operators the ability to bundle voice with broadband service in a quick, simple and profitable fashion. Indeed, DigitalBridge Communications, a rural mobile WiMAX operator (and another Fierce 15 award winner) is already an Alianza customer.
The beauty of Alianza's architecture is that it's agnostic to the broadband network it runs on--whether it's WiMAX, satellite, cable or DSL--thereby allowing the vendor to capitalize on a number of markets. Alianza also has been working with several WiMAX infrastructure providers to integrate its offerings into their equipment.
What's next: Alianza may sign on more WiMAX and satellite providers targeting rural areas, and hopes to cash in on the payout of the government's stimulus money.
