The iPhone don't mean a thing if it ain't got fring. A free, downloadable mobile VoIP solution requiring a jailbroken iPhone and WiFi access, fring enables users to interface with a series of VoIP networks, including Skype, as well as instant messaging services like Google, ICQ, MSN, Twitter, AIM, and Yahoo. In addition, PC-inspired presence indicators display contacts' current status and availability, further underscoring the application's always-on, always-connected scope. Alongside iPhone support, fring is also optimized across more than 500 handsets ranging from Nokia Series 60 devices to Sony Ericsson UIQ smartphones to myriad Windows Mobile-based devices. Needless to say, Apple's network partner AT&T won't allow fring shelf space in the App Store anytime soon, but the operator can't stop people from talking.
