When questioned about tablets, an HTC spokeswoman wrote: "There is clearly strong interest in this space right now and although HTC has no new products in this space, we can tell you that we are constantly evaluating a variety of technology and category opportunities as demonstrated in the past with unique devices like the HTC Shift and HTC Advantage. With that said, we won't just participate in a category that we don't think we can bring clear value and differentiate ourselves."
A tablet from HTC "wouldn't surprise me," said IDC analyst Will Stofega.
But ABI's Jeff Orr said that "HTC has expressed their own need to focus." That could mean tablets would fall by the wayside while HTC boosted its smartphone game.
"Tablets may just be too small of a market for HTC," Orr said.
