Where it's based: Mountain View, Calif.
When it was founded: 2004
What year it was a Fierce 15: 2006
Why it was a Fierce 15: Ruckus Wireless developed the first complete solution for video-grade, high-performance wireless networking. Using proprietary MIMO (multiple-input/multiple-output) antenna technology to provide 802.11g networks with quality of service and multiple antennas to stream video and other multimedia applications at between 20 Mbps and 30 Mbps, Ruckus worked to debunk the notion that WiFi isn't good enough to deliver high-quality video services. What has happened since it was awarded the Fierce 15: Since becoming Fierce, Ruckus said it has seen its business swell, largely driven by its wireless IPTV operation. To date, Ruckus has shipped over 2 million IPTV devices around the world. The company conducts business with the likes of Swisscom, SingTel, Telefonica Del Sur (Chile), Deutsche Telecom, Telenor, Telecom Austria and others. Further, Ruckus said it has branched out into the wireless LAN space, and is also offering products for the outdoor WiFi market with its dual-band 802.11 box sporting dynamic beamforming.
