Why it’s Fierce: In-home distribution has been a sticky wicket for the IPTV and triple-play delivery chain because of confusing installations and expensive and inconvenient truck rolls. That’s where Ruckus Wireless comes into the picture. Using proprietary MIMO (multiple-input/multiple-output) antenna technology to provide 802.11g networks with quality of service and multiple antennas to stream video and other multimedia applications, Ruckus is debunking the notion that WiFi isn't good enough to deliver high-quality video services. Ruckus even sells self-install kits through service providers in Europe, which means no more waiting for cable technicians. Period. What’s more, Ruckus Wireless has entered the SMB market with its ZoneFlex WLAN system. Ruckus's end goal is to provide SMBs with a system that will allow for a network with fewer APs that reach more users, farther and faster--without requiring a high level of maintenance or customization. "We don't aim for the best average throughput… we make the worst case suck less," CEO Selina Lo says.
What to look for: Look for a number of IPTV players and SMBs to ink deals with Ruckus.
