Announced: Oct. 5, 2009
Carrier: T-Mobile USA
Price: free with a two-year contract
Pros: The Behold II packs an impressive set of features: 3.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen, WiFi, a 5-megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.1 and support for both personal email and corporate email with Exchange ActiveSync. It was Samsung's first Android phone for the U.S. market.
Cons: Analysts said the phone's 3D user interface is superficial and adds little to the device. The phone's price at launch--$229.99--was also steep relative to other competitors in the market.
Impact: The Behold II's impact has been negligible, and it is not the premier Android device at T-Mobile. Current Analysis' Avi Greengart said the phone is an example of a company putting a software overlay on top of an operating system that actually makes things worse.
