Verizon Wireless CEO Dan Mead:
Verizon's LTE Network has another major outage
Verizon Wireless (NYSE:VZ) suffered a nationwide LTE service outage in April, just five months after it launched its commercial LTE network. The outage was believed to be caused by an overloaded piece of server equipment from Nokia Siemens Networks, which then triggered a nationwide blackout. Verizon recovered after the 24-hour outage, and its LTE network is the most extensive in the United States. Still, another outage would definitely give Verizon a black eye and Dan Mead some serious heartburn, especially with AT&T Mobility (NYSE:T) looking to catch up and Sprint Nextel (NYSE:S) planning to launch LTE by mid-2012. Another major LTE outage could seriously hurt Verizon's network reliability claims.
