India now Nokia's second biggest market

India has replaced the U.S. as Nokia's second largest market for handsets after China. The handset maker had previously predicted that India would overtake the U.S. in the number two slot by 2010. As of July, India reported having 118 million mobile users, and six million new users are signing up for services each month. Since 2004 Nokia's team in India grew from 450 employees to 9,000, including those at a factory in Chennai. Nokia sold 100.8 million mobile phones worldwide between April and June of this year.
