MetroPCS taps Alcatel-Lucent for AWS buildout

Flat-rate wireless service provider MetroPCS has inked a deal with Alcatel-Lucent to build-out its network in major metropolitan areas with CDMA2000 technology. The build-out will make use of MetroPCS' AWS spectrum. As part of the agreement, Alcatel-Lucent will provide the carrier with a range of base stations as well as maintenance and professional services, including network optimization, design and engineering. The deal will cover markets in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, Detroit, Dallas and Los Angeles. Currently, MetroPCS offers PCS service in the Miami, Orlando, Sarasota, Tampa, Atlanta, Dallas, Detroit, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Sacramento.
