T-Mobile launches UMTS in Las Vegas

T-Mobile USA quietly launched its second commercial UMTS market today in Las Vegas. The company, which launched its first UMTS market in New York in May, said it invested more than $37.5 million in infrastructure and spectrum in Las Vegas to make this a reality. The service uses the company's newly acquired AWS spectrum.

T-Mobile says it is still on track to launch at least 20 more UMTS markets by year-end. In addition, it says it has multiple phones that support UMTS and will soon offer its first HSDPA device. In July it was rumored that T-Mobile had launched UMTS in Chicago but the company never confirmed that report.
