ABI Research predicts that despite the early lead of WiFi/mobile phone service, femtocells will be the technology of choice for consumer fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) services. According to the firm, mobile operators such as Vodafone, SFR, Softbank and Sprint are at the leading edge among carriers exploring femtocell technologies. Femtocells are attractive because the technology works with any handset, and they have the potential to encourage high data use, ABI said.
