Clearwire to attack new market segment

Clearwire (NASDAQ:CLWR) said it will reveal plans to serve a new customer segment on Aug. 30 during a press conference, and speculation is running rampant as to what that might be.

If it's a reseller deal, it must be a big reseller deal since the company doesn't typically hold a press conference to announce such. In July it announced a wholesale deal via a press release with Best Buy, which will begin reselling Clearwire's service under the Best Buy Connect brand next year.

Another possibility is a deal with a company in the M2M/smart grid space. Or it could be a strategy Clearwire is executing itself, such as a prepaid offering.

Clearwire is holding the call at 11:30 a.m. EST Monday.
