Devicescape: Average data offload to Wi-Fi is 40 percent

Device Wi-Fi company Devicescape said it collaborated with mobile operators to provide insight into just how much users are using Wi-Fi to transmit data. The company sampled 1 million devices offloading data to the Devicescape Virtual Wi-Fi Network over the course of a month. The company's findings:  Each handset performed an average of eight Wi-Fi sessions a day or 240 in a month, averaging an offload of 40 percent; most high-usage devices saw rates as high as 80 percent; and the aggregate data offload was more than 100 MB per device per month--a total of 100 terabytes.
