Gartner warns corporations about investing in WiMAX too early

Gartner Research is cautioning corporations about investing in WiMAX technology. It is advising that businesses hold off on any investments until the technology is more widely deployed across the U.S. and until vendors make more dual-mode (cellular/WiMAX) devices. Gartner says that WiMAX will remain a niche technology serving more rural markets as a DSL alternative and significant coverage from Clearwire, which is merging with Sprint's WiMAX business, will take several years. Clearwire has said that its WiMAX rollout will be a on a market-by-market basis with 2010 or even 2011 delivering a reasonable footprint in the majority of the top 200 markets. Article
