Global Wireless Solutions releases network diagnostic tool in the form of an app

Global Wireless Solutions announced an application for Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android devices that benchmarks the performance of both mobile and Wi-Fi networks. A version for Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS devices is in development.

The company contends the app can capture more data than typical test apps. Network features tested include data speed, network latency, signal strength, serving cell towers, GPS signal and other key performance indicators.

In addition to providing a surface-layer performance analysis on its own, the app can be combined with GWS' other testing solutions for broader benchmarking. When used in combination with the vendor's Mobistat post-processing technology, users can view app test results via a secure website and access interactive web-based reporting and mapping tools.

GWS engineers are field testing a pre-launch version of the app, but a commercial version of the app will be released later this month. GWS said it is targeting the mobile app toward network operators, mobile device vendors and regulators.
