Sprint's LTE network adds enterprise data services

Sprint Nextel (NYSE:S) said it is now offering Sprint Data Link and Static IP networking services for businesses and government agencies over its LTE network. The services were previously restricted to the carrier's 3G CDMA network.

Sprint Data Link provides mobile employees as well as connected devices with secure, remote access to company's network via a private wireless network that is separate from the public Internet. Uses for the service run the gamut and include retail kiosks, seasonal storefronts, temporary offices, lottery terminals and wireline backup to remote monitoring and home healthcare, said Sprint.

Sprint Data Link has a 99.9 percent availability service level agreement (SLA) and is supported on numerous 3G- and 4G-capable devices, including handsets, tablets, laptops, mobile broadband cards, hotspots and M2M embedded modems.

Sprint Static IP assigns the same IP address to a device each time it authenticates and accesses the Internet, making it easier for companies to deploy devices and simplifying firewall configuration. Without the additional service, mobile devices might be assigned dynamic IP addresses that change with each new network connection.

Sprint launched LTE in July 2012 as part of its broad Network Vision network modernization project and now offers the technology in 88 markets.

Sprint is not letting Dish Network (NASDAQ: DISH) and SoftBank's competing bids for the company affect its Network Vision efforts, said Sprint CFO Joe Euteneuer in an interview with our sister publication FierceWireless.

Sprint spent $1.8 billion on capital expenditures in the first quarter, which included $1.4 billion on Network Vision. Euteneuer noted that Sprint expects total capex spending to continue at similar to slightly higher levels throughout 2013.
