Tropos introduces meshed picocell system

Tropos Networks introduced the MetroMesh NG, which the company calls "the world's first meshed multi-protocol picocell system" that could be an alternative to a straight WiMAX deployment. The product is designed to virtualize services to support other radios such as WiFi in the 4.9 GHz band and WiMAX. According to Tropos, 20 MetroMesh nodes in a one-square mile area, using bands that are 2GHz or higher, can offer the same performance as WIMAX.
