As LTE technology gains most of the press and momentum, it may be surprising to many to see the vast number of WiMAX deployments that have occurred throughout the world. It's clear that WiMAX has emerged as a solution for those greenfield operators looking to deploy a mobile IP solution today, rather than wait for LTE. Interestingly, it was WiMAX that in effect stole the show at the CTIA Wireless 2010 confab last month, thanks to Clearwire and Sprint Nextel, which are beginning to tout usage statistics and are reporting strong momentum with market rollouts across the US.
