7-Eleven launches out-of-the-box wireless service

7-Eleven has launched its proprietary prepaid mobile phone service, Speak Out Wireless, in 358 of its Canadian locations. The service is ready-to-go straight out-of-the-box. The offering features a Nokia handset equipped with a pre-assigned phone number, a pre-charged battery, $10 of free air time and no activation requirements. Speak Out is enabled by MVNE Ztar. 7-Eleven said the service aims to serve customers with a limited budget that want a simplified phone service or the business traveler who is stuck without a phone. The service starts at $65 for the Nokia 1100 and jumps up to $115 for the Nokia 3120 handset. The rates include 20 cents-per-minute air time with no restrictions, five-cent text messaging and up to a year of purchased air time. The phone service also includes voicemail, three-way calling and caller ID.
